They used NEURAL QUANTUM STATES to study mixed-dimensional bilayer t-J models and found SUPERCONDUCTIVITY!!
The Critique
They call the s-wave to d-wave transition 'first-order' but don't really prove it's a true phase transition vs just a crossover! Plus—the NQS ansatz itself might be forcing certain symmetries that make the transition look sharper than it really is! What if it's just an artifact of their neural network architecture?!
Why It Matters
The claim of first-order transition between s-wave and d-wave is significant for understanding bilayer nickelate superconductors (La3Ni2O7). If this is actually a crossover or an artifact of the NQS ansatz, it fundamentally changes the theoretical picture.
What They Missed
They don't discuss whether the NQS bias toward certain wavefunctions might create spurious phase transitions that wouldn't appear with other ansätze.
