Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 13, 2026

Overview

At Paperscope, we value your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.

Information We Collect

Website Analytics

Google Analytics 4 is optional and is not loaded or configured unless you select “Accept analytics” in the site’s privacy choices. If accepted, it may collect:

  • Pages visited and time spent on site
  • Referral sources (how you found us)
  • Device and browser information (anonymized)
  • General geographic location (country/city level only)

You can reject analytics initially or change your choice at any time using “Privacy settings” in the footer.

Newsletter Subscriptions

If you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect:

  • Your email address

The signup is handled by Netlify Forms. We use this information solely to process the requested newsletter subscription. You can request removal at any time.

How We Use Your Information

  • Analytics: To improve our content and user experience
  • Newsletters: To deliver weekly paper critiques (only if subscribed)
  • Security: To protect against abuse and ensure site stability

What We Don't Do

  • We do not sell your personal information
  • We do not share your data with third parties for marketing
  • We do not use your data for targeted advertising
  • We do not track you across other websites

Cookies

Paperscope stores these preferences locally in your browser:

  • Theme preference: Remembers your dark/light mode choice
  • Analytics choice: Remembers whether you accepted or rejected optional analytics
  • Analytics: Google Analytics may set analytics storage only after acceptance

You can disable cookies in your browser settings, though this may affect site functionality.

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

  • Google Analytics 4: Optional aggregate website analytics after consent
  • Netlify: Hosting, CDN delivery, newsletter form processing, and currently enabled Real User Monitoring/performance telemetry that measures aggregate Web Vitals and production performance. This optional telemetry is injected by Netlify at the platform level and is not controlled by the site’s analytics consent choice; it should be disabled in the Netlify dashboard.
  • arXiv: Links to original research papers

Each of these services has their own privacy policies. We encourage you to review them.

Data Retention

  • Google controls retention for analytics data collected after consent
  • Newsletter form submissions are retained only as needed to process subscriptions and removal requests

Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction or deletion of your data
  • Unsubscribe from communications at any time
  • Opt out of analytics tracking

To exercise these rights, email corrections@paperscope.org.

Children's Privacy

Paperscope is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
